Description

Visit Albania's historic first capital on an easy half-day trip: walk Kruja castle, the Skanderbeg Museum, and the 500-year-old Ottoman bazaar, with hotel pickup from Tirana, Durres, or Golem.
Perched on the slopes of Mount Kruja, the castle town of Kruja is where Albania's national hero Gjergj Kastrioti - Skanderbeg - resisted the Ottoman Empire for 25 years. Today it is the easiest and most rewarding half-day trip in central Albania, and this tour packs it all in without an early start or a long drive.

After hotel pickup, we drive about an hour to Kruja. Your guide leads you through the castle grounds and into the Skanderbeg Museum, where the story of Albania's 15th-century resistance comes alive across weapons, flags, and dramatic murals. From the walls, look out over the Adriatic plain all the way to the sea on clear days.

Below the castle, wander the cobbled lanes of the Old Bazaar - one of the best-preserved Ottoman markets in the Balkans. Its wooden-shuttered shops sell antiques, hand-woven kilims, filigree silver, and Albania's best souvenirs. Your guide shows you which workshops are the real thing and where to taste a proper mountain-herb tea.

We also stop at the Sari Salltik Bektashi shrine above the town for another sweeping panorama before driving you back to your hotel. Morning departures run from Tirana daily, plus a dedicated departure from Durres and Golem hotels.
