Our first stop is Hovhannavank Monastery, perched dramatically on the edge of the Kasagh River gorge. Founded in the 4th century and later expanded in medieval times, it is a striking example of Armenian church architecture. Its location offers stunning views into the gorge and across to Mount Aragats.

Nearby lies the Saghmosavank Monastery, another treasure overlooking the same gorge. Known as the “Monastery of Psalms,” it was an important medieval center of education and manuscript writing. The breathtaking panorama from the monastery walls makes this one of the most scenic spots in Armenia.

We then visit the Karmravor Church in Ashtarak, one of the smallest yet most charming churches in Armenia, dating back to the 7th century. Despite its size, Karmravor has been remarkably well preserved, with its original red-tiled roof still intact — a rare feature for churches of this age.

Our journey continues to the Aghtsk Mausoleum and Basilica, one of the earliest Christian monuments in Armenia. The site is believed to contain relics of Armenian kings and serves as a fascinating link to the country’s pre-Christian and early Christian past.
