Come see the tidal bore at the Qiantang River! It's the largest tidal bore in the world, as spectacular as ten thousand horses galloping. It's Hangzhou's most amazing natural sight — don't miss it!
Come see the tidal bore at the Qiantang River! It's the most famous tidal bore in China. People call it "the finest tide under heaven," and it's Hangzhou's most spectacular natural sight.
Around the 18th day of the eighth lunar month each year, the tide is at its biggest and best, and many people travel from far away just to see this moment with their own eyes.
When the tide comes, a white line first appears on the river, then it moves faster and faster and grows higher and higher, rushing toward you like a white wall, with a sound as loud as thunder — it's truly magnificent.
The tidal bore takes many forms: sometimes it rolls forward in a single line, sometimes it hits the embankment and surges back. Each one is unforgettable.
We offer three viewing spots for you to choose from: Yanguan, Xiaoshan Meinvba, and Qige Zhutoujiao Ba. To see the most classic "single-line tide," go to Yanguan; to see the thrilling scene of the tide hitting the dam, turning back, and sending spray sky-high, go to Xiaoshan Meinvba or Qige Zhutoujiao Ba. You can freely choose according to your preference.
When you come to Hangzhou, you must see the Qiantang River tidal bore at least once!
