Your adventure begins with pickup in Belize City, where you’ll meet your experienced local guide and travel west toward the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve. During the drive, enjoy views of Belize’s tropical countryside while your guide introduces you to the history and natural environment of the area and explains what to expect from the adventure ahead.

Upon arrival at the reserve, you’ll receive a safety briefing and prepare for the journey into Actun Tunichil Muknal, also known as the ATM Cave. The adventure begins with a hike through the lush rainforest, crossing streams and navigating the natural terrain along the way. Once you reach the cave entrance, your guide will provide instructions before you enter the underground world.

Inside the cave, you’ll hike, wade, and swim through cool underground passages while following your guide deeper into the cave system. The route includes walking through water, climbing over rocks, and navigating narrow passages, making this an exciting experience for adventurous travelers.

As you progress farther into the cave, you’ll encounter ancient Maya artifacts and ceremonial remains preserved within the underground chambers. Your guide will explain the spiritual importance of the cave and the role it played in ancient Maya ceremonies. You’ll have the opportunity to see ancient pottery, stone formations, Maya carvings, and human remains, including the famous skeletal remains associated with the site.

Throughout the experience, your guide will lead the way, explain the history and significance of what you are seeing, and help you safely navigate the cave. After exploring the main chambers and learning about the ancient Maya connection to the cave, you’ll make your way back through the underground passages and return to the rainforest.

Once outside, take time to dry off, relax, and enjoy the surrounding jungle before beginning the journey back to Belize City. Your adventure concludes with drop-off after an unforgettable day combining hiking, exploration, natural beauty, and one of Belize’s most remarkable archaeological experiences.
