Description
Explore Melnik and Rozhen Monastery, admire the scenic Sand Pyramids, and enjoy a tasting of local wines at a world-class regional wine cellar.
Begin your tour with a scenic 2h drive through the Pirin mountain foothills, arriving in the charming Rozhen monastery. Explore the peaceful grounds from 17th century and centuries-old frescoes. Set off on a short and scenic hike (about 45 minutes) through the sand cliffs to the stunning Rozhen pyramids.
Then we will visit the town of Melnik — officially Bulgaria’s smallest town but one of its richest in culture, nestled among the striking Melnik sandstone pyramids, the town is famous for its preserved 18th-century architecture and red wines.
Enjoy a leisurely walking tour, visiting landmarks like the Kordopoulova House — the largest Revival-period house in the Balkans, with an ancient wine cellar carved into the rock.
After lunch, visit one of the world's best wine cellars, perched above the valley with views that stretch to Greece, for a wine tasting of local varieties as "Melnik broad leaf grape".
