Description
Discover Guangzhou’s food culture on a half-day tour. Visit the South China Agricultural Museum and savor authentic dim sum at a local teahouse with a local guide familiar with Cantonese food culture.
Discover the soul of Guangzhou’s food culture on this intimate half-day tour, where you’ll bridge the gap between the city’s agricultural roots and its world-famous Cantonese dim sum.
Start with a visit to South China Agricultural University Museum (Huanong Agricultural Museum), a hidden gem that houses over 200,000 specimens and exhibits. Learn how Guangzhou’s agriculture shaped its unique diet over thousands of years.
Guided by a professional English-speaking local expert, learn how crops, ingredients, and farming traditions laid the foundation for Cantonese cuisine’s fresh, delicate flavors. You’ll see rare specimens of local crops (such as rice, lychee, and lotus root), traditional Lingnan farming tools, and exhibits tracing the evolution of Cantonese food from ancient times to today. Learn how the subtropical climate and fertile land of Guangzhou shaped its “fresh, light, and delicate” culinary philosophy, and discover the origins of key dim sum ingredients.
After diving into history, head to a beloved local teahouse to savor authentic dim sum— such as steamed shrimp dumplings —with live explanations of their origins, making techniques, and cultural significance. Why dim sum is more than just food, but a way of socializing for Guangzhou locals. You’ll also learn about the “yum cha” culture, how to order dim sum like a local, and the pairing of tea with dim sum to balance flavors.
There are two time slot options: 1) 9am-1pm; 2) 3pm-7pm, you could choose the time slot according to your preference.
This tour is perfect for food lovers, culture enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to experience Guangzhou beyond the tourist traps, with a focus on genuine, immersive cultural exchange.
