Description

Discover the largest park cemetery in the world and learn interesting details about its history, celebrity graves, tomb symbolism, funeral culture, and much more on a guided tour.
The Ohlsdorf Cemetery is much more than "just" a cemetery. It is Hamburg's largest green space and the largest park cemetery in the world. It has a history spanning over 140 years, and you can stroll through it as if through an open history book.

We meet on the cemetery side of the main entrance at Fuhlsbüttler Straße 756. From there, we will spend 1.5 hours exploring part of the 398-hectare site on foot.

The themes of the tour can be tailored to the wishes of the participants. The tour usually ends back near the main entrance. Depending on the participants' wishes, the return journey can also be made on one of the two HVV bus lines that operate in the cemetery.

Along the way, we will discover angel sculptures over 100 years old, mausoleums, and the magnificent tombs of wealthy Hamburg merchant families, and visit the graves of prominent Hamburg residents. Depending on individual preferences, other themes of the tour can include tomb symbolism, funeral culture, archaeological sites in the cemetery, or even art, botany, and nature conservation.
