Next, learn how to prepare an authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremony, one of the country’s most important cultural traditions. Your local host will guide you through every step, from washing and preparing the green coffee beans to roasting the coffee beans over a traditional charcoal stove (jebena ceremony).

Grind the roasted beans by hand using a traditional tool, then prepare the coffee in a traditional clay coffee pot called a jebena. Learn the meaning behind the three rounds of coffee: Abol, Tona, and Baraka, which represent friendship, respect, and blessing in Ethiopian culture.

After preparing the coffee together, sit with your hosts and enjoy the fresh aroma and taste of Ethiopian coffee while sharing stories and learning about local customs.
