Description

Experience Ethiopian hospitality with a local family in the Entoto countryside. Learn how to prepare traditional injera, discover rural life, and take part in an Ethiopian coffee ceremony.
Leave the busy streets of Addis Ababa behind and discover the traditions, flavors, and hospitality of Ethiopia through a genuine local family experience in the green landscapes of Mount Entoto.

Begin with a scenic journey to the Entoto highlands, where you will visit a local family and learn about their daily life, farming traditions, and connection with the land. Enjoy beautiful countryside views while discovering local crops and rural traditions.

Take part in a hands-on traditional Ethiopian injera-making workshop. Learn how teff flour, Ethiopia’s ancient grain, is prepared and transformed into the famous sourdough flatbread. Work together with your hosts and discover the techniques passed down through generations.

Next, learn how to prepare an authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremony, one of the country’s most important cultural traditions. Your local host will guide you through every step, from washing and preparing the green coffee beans to roasting the coffee beans over a traditional charcoal stove (jebena ceremony).

Grind the roasted beans by hand using a traditional tool, then prepare the coffee in a traditional clay coffee pot called a jebena. Learn the meaning behind the three rounds of coffee: Abol, Tona, and Baraka, which represent friendship, respect, and blessing in Ethiopian culture.

After preparing the coffee together, sit with your hosts and enjoy the fresh aroma and taste of Ethiopian coffee while sharing stories and learning about local customs. Finish your experience with a delicious homemade Ethiopian lunch prepared with traditional ingredients, creating a memorable connection with Ethiopian culture beyond ordinary sightseeing.
