The day kicks off with a bus ride to Cologne (Köln), on the banks of the Rhine. After about two and a half hours of travel, you'll discover one of the continent's most impressive Gothic jewels: Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
During a one-hour walking tour, you'll explore the main attractions of the old town (Altstadt):

The Town Hall (Rathaus)
The Romanesque church of Groß St. Martin
The colorful houses of the Fischmarkt by the Rhine
Hohenzollern Bridge
The visit ends at the Hohenzollern Bridge, one of the most photographed places in the city.
Afterwards, you'll have some free time to stroll around, have lunch, and soak up the local atmosphere.
In the afternoon, the tour continues to Aachen, an imperial city linked to the figure of Charlemagne.
A guided tour will let you discover its Cathedral, the first in Germany to receive UNESCO recognition, as well as the Town Hall Square and the Katschhof, a nerve center between religious and civil power.
Finally, you'll have some free time to stroll through its historic streets, buy the famous local "Printen" sweets, or enjoy a drink on the terraces before heading back to Brussels.
