Description
Experience Sugarloaf like few do: forest walk, rocky hike, beginner climbing, hidden viewpoints, and unforgettable 360° views–ending with a scenic cable car ride!
Meet your expert guide near the Sugarloaf cable car entrance and get ready for one of Rio’s most thrilling adventures!
Begin with a scenic walk along the Cláudio Coutinho Trail, following the southern coast of Urca Hill–the first peak–and Sugarloaf, the taller summit. Stroll through lush greenery and birdsong as you make your way for 45 minutes to the start of the main trail around, where the real adventure begins.
For the next 30 minutes, hike uphill on the rocky east face, surrounded by stunning wilderness featuring tropical birds, occasional monkeys, lizards, bromeliads, and vibrant flora. Feel the thrill of the terrain as you ascend through this hidden natural paradise. Then, take on an introductory rock climbing class to face a 15-meter rock climbing section—fully guided and equipped. Learn the basics of rock climbing in this “baptism” experience. Not recommended for those with a fear of heights.
Afterward, scramble uphill for 20 more minutes to reach the incredible Philosopher’s Stone viewpoint, where panoramic views stretch over Copacabana, Ipanema, Guanabara Bay, and Rio’s skyline—a hidden gem known to few adventurers, even locals.
From there, continue for another 30 minutes to reach the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain around, offering breathtaking 360° views including Christ the Redeemer, Tijuca Forest, Copacabana, Ipanema, and more. It’s the perfect spot for photos, soaking in the panorama, and a well-deserved rest!
The descent begins around 20 minutes later, with a scenic ride on the Sugarloaf cable car–free for those who climbed–down to Urca Hill. From there, enjoy a 40-minute downhill hike back to the meeting point.
4-hours later, you’ll arrive at the meeting point, completing a half-day adventure that blends hiking, climbing, and some of Brazil’s most iconic postcard views!
