Description

Your private 4×4 drives you to 4,700 m — then a 4 km trek through 3 colored lagoons leads to the Ventanani Glacier (5,010 meters) , where you can touch the ancient ice. No crowds. No shared buses.
THE EXPERIENCE:
Most travelers leave Bolivia without ever touching a glacier. This day trip changes that. A private 4×4 picks you up at your door in La Paz and drives you deep into the Cordillera Real — one of the most dramatic mountain ranges on Earth — dropping you at Laguna Juri Quta (4,700 m), where the trail begins. From there, a 4 km trek through three high-altitude lagoons leads you straight to the edge of the Ventanani Glacier at 5,010 meters above sea level.

The hike is a natural progression: each lagoon sits higher, wilder, and more remote than the last. You begin at Laguna Juri Quta (4,700 m), where reflects the surrounding peaks and wild llamas graze along the road. The trail climbs to Laguna Eslovenia (4,900 m), framed by mineral rock walls that shift color in the morning light. The final stretch — the steepest and most rewarding — brings you to Laguna Ventanani (5,010 m) and the glacier itself, close enough to place your hands on ice that has been forming for centuries.

Standing at the edge, you face the southern wall of Nevado Cabeza de Cóndor (5,800 m), Pico Ventanani, and Pico Austria (5,350 m) — a panorama that almost no traveler reaches because almost no one knows this route exists.

WHY THIS EXPERIENCE IS DIFFERENT:

1. This is not a group tour. There are no shared buses, no waiting at an office, no strangers setting the pace.

2. Your private 4×4 departs from your accommodation and returns to your door. On the trail, you move at your own rhythm, guided by a local specialist who knows these mountains and their silences as well as their secrets.

3. Ventanani is also a glacier under pressure from climate change. Every year the ice recedes a little more. The window to touch it is real — and it is closing.
