This day trip from Sarajevo takes you to Lukomir, Bosnia's most remote mountain village. Hike along the second-deepest canyon in Europe, stroll through the village, and enjoy a local lunch.
Escape the city and head up into the Dinaric Alps: Lukomir is the highest and most isolated village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, nestled right in the Olympic Mountains and overlooking the Rakitnica Canyon, the second deepest canyon in Europe.
After a scenic drive from Sarajevo, you will first reach Umoljani, a mountain village famous for its stone houses and legends about dragons. From there, you'll continue on foot: an easy to moderate hike will take you along a scenic trail running alongside Europe's second-deepest canyon, Rakitnica.
Along the way, your guide will share stories about what it's like to live in one of the most inaccessible and remote areas of Bosnia. And, of course, there will always be plenty of time for breaks during the hike to soak up the views and take photos!
In Lukomir, a traditional Bosnian lunch awaits you, prepared by locals using locally sourced seasonal ingredients. And nowhere does food taste as good as at 4,921 feet (1,500 meters) above sea level after a strenuous hike ;-)
On our hike, we take our time. Small groups of no more than 8 hikers ensure a relaxed pace that allows you to fully take in your surroundings. If you want to combine nature, history and a hike that feels like spending time with a good friend, then this is the tour for you.

This tour is weather-dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice.
Wear hiking shoes (ideally with ankle support) and long pants (protection from undergrowth, ticks, etc.)
Remember to bring sun protection and/or rain gear
Bring a water bottle (at least 1 liter)
The hike is of moderate difficulty: 14 kilometers (8.5 miles), 510 meters (1,673 feet) of elevation gain
Pickup at the taxi stand behind the cathedral, next to Buregdzinica Lejla

When should I book?
To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.
Cancellations
This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
