Your skydiving journey begins at a certified drop zone in the western zone of Rio. After a detailed safety briefing and gear check, you’ll board a specially equipped aircraft alongside your professional tandem instructor. As the plane climbs to the jump altitude — typically around 10,000 to 14,000 feet (3,000 to 4,200 meters) — the anticipation builds.

Looking out the window, you’ll spot the dramatic contrast between the shimmering Atlantic Ocean and the sprawling green landscape of Reserva and the Marapendi Lagoon. Once at altitude, the plane doors open and the real thrill begins. Harnessed securely to your instructor, you’ll step out into the sky — and suddenly you’re freefalling at speeds of up to 200 km/h (120 mph).

The rush is like nothing else on Earth. Wind in your face, heart racing, you’ll be soaring through open sky with Praia da Reserva directly below. From this height, the view is absolutely surreal: a ribbon of untouched golden sand stretches for kilometers between turquoise ocean and emerald lagoons. You may catch glimpses of Barra da Tijuca to the east, the Pedra da Gávea in the distance, and the intricate web of waterways winding through the nature reserve.

After about 45 to 60 seconds of freefall, your instructor deploys the parachute. Suddenly, the rush gives way to serenity. You’ll slow into a peaceful, floating descent, giving you time to take in the panoramic vistas all around you. Gliding gently above Reserva Beach, you’ll feel as if time has stopped. Look west and you’ll see the pristine beaches of Recreio and Macumba. To the east, the high-rises of Barra appear like toy blocks from above. Beneath your feet, the Atlantic sparkles in every direction.

Your skydive ends with a smooth, controlled landing near the shoreline or designated landing zone, often just behind Praia da Reserva. The feeling of touching down after flying through the sky is euphoric — your feet are back on the ground, but your spirit is still soaring.
