Description
Explore Paraty’s waterfalls and rainforest on a thrilling Jeep tour through the Bocaína National Park. Adventure and nature await you!
Paraty is much more than a charming colonial town frozen in time. Renowned worldwide as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this historic city captivates visitors with its well-preserved cobblestone streets, colorful colonial architecture, and rich cultural heritage that tells stories dating back to Brazil’s colonial era. But Paraty’s true magic lies not only in its past but also in its breathtaking natural surroundings, making it a unique destination where history and nature intertwine seamlessly.
What sets Paraty apart from many other historic towns is that over 65% of its territory lies within the vast and protected boundaries of the Serra da Bocaina National Park (Parque Nacional da Bocaina). This expansive national park is a jewel of Brazil’s Atlantic Forest biome, one of the world’s richest and most diverse ecosystems, offering an extraordinary blend of biodiversity and pristine landscapes. Because of this, Paraty is also considered a natural heritage site, preserving not just its architectural treasures but also its lush environment.
This exceptional location provides endless opportunities for adventure tourism, with activities that allow visitors to explore the rugged mountains, dense forests, crystal-clear waterfalls, and scenic rivers that surround the town. Among the many ways to experience the wild side of Paraty, one of the most popular and exhilarating is the Jeep Tour.
The Jeep Tour offers an off-road adventure that combines thrill, exploration, and cultural discovery. As you venture out of the historic center and into the heart of the Atlantic Forest, the landscape transforms dramatically. You’ll traverse dirt roads, cross streams, and climb steep trails in a sturdy 4x4 vehicle designed to handle the terrain, ensuring a comfortable and safe journey even through the most remote areas.
During the tour, you’ll visit some of Paraty’s most stunning natural attractions. Imagine sliding down the natural rock waterslide at Cachoeira do Tobogã, or taking a refreshing dip in the serene pools of Poço do Tarzan surrounded by dense greenery. You might also stop at Pedra Branca Waterfall, a hidden gem where you can relax, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and soak in the pristine waters. Each stop offers a chance to connect deeply with nature, breathe fresh forest air, and capture incredible photos.
Beyond the waterfalls and pools, the Jeep Tour also takes you to experience local culture in an authentic way. One highlight is visiting a traditional alambique, a local distillery where artisanal cachaça — Brazil’s famous sugarcane spirit — is handcrafted using age-old methods. Here, you’ll learn about the production process, sample different varieties, and gain a deeper appreciation for this beloved cultural symbol.
