Begin your adventure with a pickup from Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo. Head to Itatiaia National Park, the first Brazilian National Park, established in 1937. Covering almost 12,000 hectares, the park is a haven for biodiversity, featuring the Atlantic Forest and high-altitude grasslands!

The park sits between 600m and 2791m above sea level, with its highest point, Agulhas Negras Peak, the fifth tallest mountain of Brazil. The symbol of the park is the Maldonada redbelly toad, a small toad that is endemic to the high-altitude area of the park.

Here, you can also observe a lot of rare and endemic species such as the Black-fronted Titi Monkey, Brown Howler Monkey, Brown-throated Sloth, Maned Wolf, Green-headed Tanager, Red-breasted Toucan, and more!

Start your trip from the lower part of the park, which is in the cloud forest between 800m-1100m above sea level. Visit the Visitor Center Fauna and Flora Museum, walk on the trails inside the jungle, and observe various Atlantic Forest species!

The next day, go to the higher part of the park, walk on the trails on top of the mountains, and observe the unique species of the high-altitude grassland of the park. At night, go out to observe nocturnal animals and set up a mercury light to attract insects. Enjoy the thrill of discovering the forest’s hidden creatures!
