Learn how to travel safely in the backcountry and take a 2-day avalanche skills course. Study the official level 1 AvCan curriculum and put your new skills to the test at Banff National Park on day 2.
Keep yourself safe in the mountains and learn important avalanche safety skills on this 2-day course. Split into 2 parts, learn theory on the first day before you take your new skills to the backcountry in Banff National Park alongside your guide.
Focus on the training curriculum on the first day with a classroom session held on Zoom. Learn about the mountain conditions and weather patterns that contribute to avalanche hazards as you study Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST 1).
The field day will be held at Bow Summit or Vermilion Pass. Put your new skills to the test with simulated companion rescues, snowpack analyses, and weak layer recognition. Learn more about terrain use and avoidance as well as group dynamics and risk tolerance from your guide.

All participants must drive themselves to the field day site
There will be a maximum of 8 students per instructor on the field day
The exact meeting point for the field day will be communicated during the classroom session of the course.
When should I book?
To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.
Cancellations
Cancellation is not possible. If you cancel it anyway or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity and the money you paid will not be refunded.
