Description

Get off the beaten path and eat where the locals eat on a walking tour in the oldest neighborhood of Beijing! We only eat at local, family-run eateries that you would never find on your own.
Begin your foodie journey at Lama Temple metro station, where you'll meet your English-speaking guide and get ready to embark on a culinary adventure. Wander through 1.25 miles (2km) of Beijing's historic hutong alleyways, soaking in the city's past while taking delightful breaks to savor local bites. A highlight of the tour will be a stop at a hutong noodle shop that has earned our stamp of approval, where you'll taste the renowned "Beijing Noodles." This unique experience offers a perfect blend of cultural exploration and culinary delight.

Continue your exploration by venturing into a hidden hutong alley, where an old-school restaurant awaits to serve you the best Beijing stir-fries, offering a taste of old Beijing's vibes and flavors. The journey doesn't stop there; embrace the culinary tradition brought by the Mongols to the heart of Beijing with a DIY Mongolian BBQ. Here, you'll have the opportunity to grill a variety of marinated meats and vegetables, promising an interactive and flavorful experience.

Conclude your culinary adventure by sampling a dish favored by Empress Cixi, offered at one of the few Muslim diners in Beijing that still serves this rare cuisine, highlighting Beijing's endangered dishes. Your evening will end at a local craft brewery, where you can enjoy a pint of in-house brewed craft beer. This stop is especially favored by Beijing’s trendy and burgeoning middle class, offering a modern twist to the traditional flavors experienced throughout the tour. These carefully curated stops ensure a comprehensive exploration of Beijing's culinary landscape, from its historic roots to contemporary trends.
