Duration: 03:00 hours

Description

Walk from futuristic DDP to Seoul’s old city wall and hillside neighborhoods, uncovering the stories, people, and places that shaped Seoul over 600 years.
See how 600 years of Seoul fit into one neighborhood.
We’ll begin around DDP, where modern architecture sits on layers of older Seoul. From there, we’ll trace how Dongdaemun changed through war, industrialization and redevelopment.
Along Cheonggyecheon and around Pyeonghwa Market, you’ll hear how the garment industry helped power Korea’s rapid growth and how difficult working conditions in the industry eventually helped bring about major social change in Korea.
At Heunginjimun, we step much further back in time and follow the old Seoul City Wall uphill toward Naksan.
We’ll then slow down in Ihwa Village, take a break, grab a drink, and enjoy the view over the city before continuing through the hillside neighborhoods.
Along the way, I’ll use old photographs and stories to show how dramatically this part of Seoul has changed.
Rather than simply moving from landmark to landmark, the walk connects them into one story: how Seoul kept rebuilding itself and how ordinary people shaped the city along the way.
