Description

A private story about my family during the Homeland War in Dubrovnik, what my childhood was like. Children usually collect small photos for albums, we collected various shrapnel from bombs.
Local tourist guide Kate is telling you personal family story about during the Montenegrin aggression against Dubrovnik.
The Homeland War was a defense-liberation war for the independence and integrity of the Republic of Croatia.

At the age of 11, my experience how my family and I run away from our home in Župa Dubrovačka, surroundings of Dubrovnik, to the Imperial hotel, today the Hilton Imperial Hotel at Pile Gate, because my father had a day job there. We were hidden in the basements during the aggression for two years.
After a normal life in Dubrovnik, full of tourists and events during the summer of 1991.
From October 1, 1991, our life turned into a nightmare, it seemed like overnight.

My father, a musician who played and entertained guests all summer, was forced to go to the battlefield to defend his home and to kill enemies. Shock and trauma for him and entire family. Also to all other citizens who have experienced similar and worse stories. My mother was a nurse, worked in a hospital during the war, and my father was a veteran wounded on the battlefield and left 80% disabled.
During the greatest aggression on December 6, 1991, the house of our cousin, a famous painter in the old town, was destroyed and burned to the ground in Široka Street.

The Homeland War Gallery in the Sponsa Palace is a memorial room for fallen defenders. In the worst attack on Dubrovnik in history in the first week of October alone, 100 Dubrovnik defenders and citizens were wounded and 27 were killed.

Walking up to the Cable car and on a hill of Srđ in Fortress Imperial there is museum of the Yugoslavia war in Dubrovnik that we have to visit because you can see videos and get closer to my experience how was it at that time in Dubrovnik.
On December 6, 1991 Fort Imperial and its defenders experienced the biggest attack since the fort was built. In the attack, the fort suffered great damage.

In the end of the tour you can enjoy the view of the city of Dubrovnik that is Croatian Heritage since 1979 and Unesco help us to renovated the city and returned it authenticity.
