Description
Discover the rich history of the Kingdom of Navarre on a full-day excursion departing from and returning to Pamplona. From the Royal Palace of Olite to the singing of the monks at the Monastery of Leyre.
Full-day excursion in small groups with an official guide who will provide explanations at the different places we visit. We will start the day by visiting Olite, first the Old Palace and its square, and then the Royal Palace of Olite. Considered one of the most luxurious palaces built in 15th-century Europe, we will guide you so that you can get the most out of it and enjoy it with our explanations before leaving you some free time to climb the towers, take photos, or rest as our kings did.
We will continue to the fantastic village of Ujué, located on top of a mountain with spectacular views. We will visit its spectacular church-fortress with our guide so that you don't miss a thing (we will even see the heart of one of our kings!). In Ujué, we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant (lunch not included).
In the afternoon, we will visit the birthplace of the patron saint of Navarre, Saint Francis Xavier. Javier Castle will allow us to learn more about the history of this saint while enjoying a medieval building that will take us back in time (and provide fantastic photo opportunities).
We will end the excursion at one of the jewels of Navarre: the Monastery of Leyre with its Romanesque crypt. We will take a guided tour (with our guide, avoiding crowds) and end up in the church where the Benedictine monks who live in this monastery will sing. And so, we will return to Pamplona, arriving around 8 pm.
