Embark on a challenging and rewarding guided hike through one of Iceland’s most scenic mountain landscapes. Designed for experienced hikers, this full-day adventure offers dramatic elevation, sweeping glacier views, and the chance to experience Iceland’s raw natural beauty up close.

The route begins near the national park visitor center and leads through diverse terrain, including small birch forests, open highlands, and rocky ridges. Along the way, you’ll stop at the striking Svartifoss waterfall, known for its unique basalt columns.

As the trail ascends, the scenery opens up to reveal panoramic views of glaciers, volcanic peaks, and vast black sand plains stretching toward the Atlantic. Depending on conditions and group pace, the hike may continue toward a summit ridge or focus on the stunning viewpoints along the way.

This demanding 18 km circular route includes approximately 1215 meters of elevation gain and typically takes 6–8 hours. It is only suitable for hikers in excellent physical condition.

When should I book?

To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.


Cancellations

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
