Description

Visit the Old National Gallery, which is part of the Museum Island's UNESCO World Heritage Site. See works from Classicism, Romanticism, Biedermeier, Impressionism, and early Modernity.
Explore the Alte Nationalgalerie, a "sanctuary for art and science", the idea for which goes back to Friedrich Wilhelm IV.

The collection is based on a donation from the banker Joachim Heinrich Wilhelm Wagener, who left the works of the Dusseldorf school of painting and Belgian history painters to the Prussian state. In 1876, the National Gallery was opened as the third museum of the Spree Island and after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was used as the Alte Nationalgalerie of the 19th century.

See sculptures like the breathtaking Sleeping Beauty and works by French Impressionists such as Manet, Monet and Renoir. Discover Romanticism and the time of Goethe with the "The Monk by the Sea", the "Gothic Cathedral at the Water" and the Group of Princesses.

Experience exhibition talks and guided tours with various themes for children and adults.
