Description

Discover our spa town with its more than 1,000 years of history on foot with our experienced tour guides.
You start the city tour at the former castle, which also houses the tourist information office. Walk along Jungfernstieg, where the narrowest house in the city is located, past August-Zierfuß-Straße to the city's main church. In today's baroque building you will find the Strobel organ and an alabaster baptismal font. If you look north along Klosterstraße, you will see the Panorama Museum in the distance with its circular painting on the early bourgeois revolution. Cross Klosterstraße, with its remarkable old half-timbered houses, towards Wallgraben and the Botanical Gardens. This is where the former city cemetery is located and where rare trees and shrubs were planted in the 20th century. The route now continues along Zinkestraße towards Anger. Along the remains of the former Anger Gate, near which Thomas Müntzer was captured on May 15, 1525. Pass the oldest half-timbered house in the town and head towards Quellgrund. If you look north from here, you will see the former Franconian castle complex, today's Hausmannsturm. If you continue along Oberkirchgasse, you will see the leaning tower of Bad Frankehausen. The 56 m high church tower has sunk due to the brine springs underground and is 4.83 meters out of plumb. This makes the Leaning Tower more than half a meter leaner than its Italian counterpart in Pisa. From the Leaning Tower, the path leads to the newly created grounds of the Brine Water Vitality Park. Here you will also find the Schausiedehaus and the Quellgrund with the Elisabeth and Kyffhäuser springs.
