Strasbourg: The old town through anecdotes – A fun and easy tour with Yann, your official local guide. Small tasting of local wines and cheeses. Dogs allowed!
Ready for a unique immersion? Let your passionate, certified local guide lead you on a 2.5-hour exploration of Strasbourg's UNESCO-listed alleys. Forget the classic tours: with me, every street corner reveals a surprising story, a fun anecdote, or a well-kept secret.
From the moment we meet (spot my yellow and black cap or my yellow hat, depending on the weather) next to the 3D bronze model of the Strasbourg Cathedral, located on the Place du Château, dive into a living story where historical facts and little stories mingle. Find out why Strasbourg's old name, Argentoratum, is so evocative, and how a person born in 1870 could change their nationality four times without ever leaving the city.
On the agenda for your lively discovery:
- The cathedral, way more than just a monument
Discover this Gothic masterpiece through its majestic facade and fascinating anecdotes. What surprising connection is there between the height of its spire and the altitude of the square? Did you know it was the tallest monument in Christendom for centuries? I'll reveal its secrets and symbols, an unexpected vestige of its past, and the amusing story of the "Belly Measurer."
- From Gutenberg to the Reformation
Check out the Maison Kammerzell before heading to Place Gutenberg. I'll reveal why Strasbourg is a cradle of printing and how it saw the birth of pioneering publications (first book printed in German, first newspaper). Further on, check out the Church of Saint Thomas to understand the role of Protestantism in Alsace.
- La Petite France, its charm... And its surprising secrets
Welcome to Strasbourg's most picturesque neighborhood. Beyond the postcards, I'll tell you the colorful and unexpected anecdote behind the name "Petite France" – a story related to public health that will leave you speechless. Check out the architectural quirk of the timber-framed houses; I'll tell you more about this trick. We'll explore the covered bridges and the Vauban Dam, remnants of defensive ingenuity.
- Grand'Rue and beyond
Our exploration continues along the Grand'Rue. Guess which famous national anthem was born and sung for the first time here in Strasbourg. Then, shiver for a moment on the Pont du Corbeau, formerly the "bridge of torture" before heading to the famous grocery store "Mon Oncle Malker de Munster" for a tasting of local wine and cheeses.
- A personalized closing
We'll end our trip at the foot of the Cathedral. I'll be available for your questions and my best personalized recommendations for your stay. With me, Strasbourg becomes a story you'll live and remember.
