Description
When the day draws to a close, Rouen reveals its darkest stories. Crimes, torture, ghosts, and legends: dare to discover the hidden side of the city...
As the sun sets, immerse yourself in the darkest and most mysterious stories of Rouen. For 1 hour and 45 minutes, walk the streets of the city to discover real crimes, executions, legends, and beliefs that have spanned the centuries.
Your journey begins in the Place du Vieux-Marché, the site of Joan of Arc's execution, but also of other much lesser-known stories of Rouen's justice system. Continue through the streets of the historic center in the footsteps of a mysterious "Mère Maquerelle", then discover the house traditionally associated with the executioner of Rouen.
The tour then takes you to the Donjon, whose history took a particularly dark turn during World War II, before reaching Place de la Rougemare and its bloody legend.
The atmosphere then becomes more mysterious around the Saint-Ouen Abbey, where stories of a white lady, alchemy, and a ghostly monk intertwine. Then find a bit of lightheartedness on Rue Eau-de-Robec in the footsteps of the giant Gargantua.
You will then enter the eerie Aître Saint-Maclou, a former ossuary linked to the great plague epidemics, where a strange discovery still lies hidden...
Finally, head to the Cour des Libraires and Rouen Cathedral. Biblical murders, dragons, martyrs and beheadings can still be read in the stone for those who know where to look.
Between historical facts and Rouen legends, discover a different side of Rouen as the day draws to a close and old stories seem to come back to life.
