Description

A themed city tour through Potsdam that sheds light on the history of women in the GDR between 1949 and 1990.
We'll explore the history of women in the GDR through buildings and places in downtown Potsdam. In about 2.5 hours, we'll dive into the state's women's policy and the real life of women between 1949 and 1990.
We'll talk about equality and equal treatment, the double burden of working women, the experiences of female prisoners at the Ministry for State Security, and women who worked at the Ministry for State Security themselves.
Another aspect of the tour is the women's movement in the GDR before, during, and after the Peaceful Revolution.
Individual biographies serve as examples, but the focus is on the general social situation of women in the GDR.
The tour is for anyone interested in urban history, women's history, and feminist perspectives.
We start at the stone benches on Max-Planck-Straße and end with the tour at Luisenplatz.
Tour length: about 5 km
Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather—the tour takes place exclusively outdoors.
