Description

A tour through the past and present of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. A journey through the history of great merchants, emperors and port workers, raw materials and wealth.
We start our walk through Hamburg's history at Hammaburg Platz,
the birthplace and nursery of Hamburg, and learn how Hamburg got its name.

We then continue our tour via Hamburg's Kontorhausviertel, the former center of Hamburg's merchants, and its brick Kontoren.

We take a look at the prima ballerina of the Kontorhäuser under her pretty ballerina skirt.

We take a critical look at the founding charter of our port and discover a contradiction or two.

We walk on to the Speicherstadt, immerse ourselves in the red brick canyons and their stories, find out what Westphalia has to do with Hamburg and why workers used to live in a castle there.

We find out what barge and bargemen actually did and why there are coffee barons and Persians in Hamburg.
At the end you will have the opportunity to enjoy a coffee and or a cake in a former coffee storehouse.
