Description

Embark on a tour of the Assin Manso Slave River Site and Cape Coast Castle. Participate in an Akan Naming Ceremony and learn about the history of the slave trade in Ghana.
Be picked up from your hotel in Accra and driven to the Assin Manso Slave River Site for a dual-purpose experience of an Akan Naming Ceremony and a tour of the former slave market and the enslaved last bath river site.

Be prepared for the ceremony with some preparation rituals. Adorned in a traditional dress, be named in accordance with Akan cultural practice. Get a Ghanaian name based on the day of the the week that you were born and learn all about your personality and purpose borne out of your names. As part of the ceremony, receive a certification and other paraphernalia as part of the ceremony.

After this detailed cultural experience, take a tour of the site including the river site where the enslaved Africans had their last bath, the site of auction and the tombs of the returned slaves from New York, Jamaica, and Barbados.

On the return, visit the Cape Coast Castle which has a lot to do with the slave river site. "The Door of No Return" here changed to "The Door of Return" when the returned bones of the slaves from the USA and Jamaica were symbolically taken through that door in 1998 when Ghana first celebrated the Emancipation Day. Take a guided tour here through the dungeons, condemn cells among others.

Drive back to Accra after the tour and be dropped off at your preferred location.
