Description

Discover Thessaloniki's top sights on a guided walking tour. Visit the White Tower, the Rotunda, the Arch of Galerius, the Church of Agia Sophia, and the Atatürk Museum.
Begin your tour at Aristotelous Square, the heart of Thessaloniki. Admire the neoclassical buildings, grab a coffee at one of the many cafes, and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

Walk south along Nikis Avenue until you reach the White Tower, Thessaloniki’s most iconic landmark. This 15th-century structure was once a prison and now houses a museum. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the city and the Thermaic Gulf.

Head northeast along the waterfront and then north towards the Rotunda. This massive cylindrical building was originally a Roman mausoleum, then a church, and later a mosque. It’s now a museum with stunning mosaics inside.

A short walk away is the Arch of Galerius, also known as Kamara. This triumphal arch was built to celebrate Emperor Galerius’s victories. The intricate carvings depict scenes from his campaigns.

Nearby is the Church of Agia Sophia, one of Thessaloniki’s oldest churches. This UNESCO World Heritage site is modeled after its namesake in Constantinople and features beautiful Byzantine mosaics.

Continue your walk to the Atatürk Museum, the birthplace of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey. The house is a museum dedicated to his life and the relationship between Greece and Turkey.

Head back down towards the city center and visit the Jewish Museum, which offers insights into the history of the Jewish community in Thessaloniki, which was once one of the largest in Europe before WWII.

End your tour with a visit to the lively Kapani Market. Located close to Aristotelous Square, the market offers a glimpse into the daily life of locals. You can find everything from fresh produce to local delicacies here.
