Description

Unleash your creativity in Yogyakarta with a hands-on wood batik workshop. Learn from local artisans to decorate wooden masks or plates using traditional wax-resist and dyeing techniques.
Discover the ancient art of wood batik in the heart of Yogyakarta with this immersive, hands-on workshop. Unlike traditional fabric batik, this unique experience invites you to apply the intricate wax-resist technique to wooden mediums such as masks, puppets, or plates. Set in a serene traditional Javanese environment, you will be guided by skilled local artisans through every stage of the process.

Begin your journey by selecting a wooden piece and sketching your chosen pattern. You will then learn to use the canting, a traditional copper tool, to meticulously apply hot wax to your design. After the waxing is complete, bring your creation to life using vibrant dyes. The process concludes by boiling the wood to remove the wax, revealing your stunning, personalized patterns. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels and offers a peaceful escape where you can connect with Javanese heritage. Take home your handcrafted masterpiece as a one-of-a-kind souvenir of your travels.
