Description
Explore Iceland's South Coast on a guided tour from Reykjavík. Visit Skógafoss Waterfall, Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, and the DC-3 plane wreck, and see the Sólheimajökull glacier.
Begin your adventure with a morning pickup in Reykjavík. As you leave the city, journey through moss-covered lava fields and rolling farmlands. Relax and enjoy the scenic drive in a comfortable minibus with Wi-Fi on board.
Your first stop is the Lava Centre in the charming town of Hvolsvöllur, where you can stretch your legs, use the facilities, and grab a few snacks for the road ahead.
Next, head to the mighty Skógafoss Waterfall. Feel the raw power of the water as it plunges into the pool below, often creating vibrant rainbows in the mist. Capture the perfect photo or climb the 527 steps to the observation deck for a breathtaking view of the coastline.
Continue to the world-renowned Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Explore the sea caves, admire the Reynisdrangar rock needles, and enjoy your lunch.
Then, head into the vast, lunar-like desert of Sólheimasandur to see the famous DC-3 Navy plane wreck. To save you the long walk, board a convenient shuttle bus that takes you directly to the haunting white fuselage resting against the dark sand. After exploring this iconic photography spot, the shuttle will bring you back to the waiting coach.
Next, head to the town of Vík to see the famous red-roofed church, which offers views of the town and sea stacks. The journey continues to the majestic Dyrhólaey cliffs. During your stop, gaze out at the massive stone archway carved by the sea and enjoy panoramic views of the endless black coastline stretching toward the horizon. This is a popular spot for puffins from May to mid-August.
Next, visit Sólheimajökull. Use the restroom and walk to the glacier viewpoint, where you can witness the striking contrast of blue ice and black volcanic ash. Please note: This stop is for viewing the glacier and lagoon; no glacier hike or walking on the ice is included.
Your final stop is the enchanting Seljalandsfoss. Follow a path that leads directly behind the cascading curtain of water for a truly magical perspective. End your sightseeing before beginning your relaxing drive back to Reykjavík.
