Himeji Castle is one of only 12 castles in Japan that are still very well preserved, with their wooden keeps still standing. We can still visit it today without any problems. The castle dates back to 1346, and we see it today as it was in 1618. We'll learn more about Japanese castle architecture and the history of the Tokugawa Shogunate (1603-1868).
In the vicinity of the castle, Engyo-ji temple, with its thousand-year history, sits enthroned on Mount Shosha. A frequent film location, the temple was made famous by the film "The Last Samurai". We can walk in the footsteps of the 10th-century monk Shoku, then of the famous actor Tom Cruise.
