Founded 174 years ago, Kouichi Store is a long-established kimono maker dedicated to preserving and sharing Japan’s rich textile traditions.

Step into the heart of Tokyo and immerse yourself in a traditional Japanese experience with an authentic kimono and yukata rental in the serene Shinjuku Gyoen Park. This exclusive activity begins at the historic tea room, "Rakuu-tei Kouichi Store," located within the tranquil Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our welcoming staff who will assist you in selecting your kimono for the experience.

Next, our professional dressing team will help you wear your kimono, complete with a matching obi belt, tabi socks, traditional sandals, and a traditional Japanese handbag. You can choose from a wide range of authentic kimonos, carefully selected to match the season, giving you the chance to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of Japan's cultural heritage.

At the end of your experience, return to "Rakuu-tei Kouichi Store" for kimono removal.

The dressing and kimono selection take about 60 minutes, with professional assistance provided throughout to ensure a smooth and enjoyable start.
Afterward, you are free to explore Shinjuku Gyoen and the surrounding area in your kimono, for as long as you like until the final return time — 4:00 PM.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
・It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the entrance gate of Shinjuku Gyoen to the meeting point. Please arrive with enough time.

・You cannot exit Shinjuku Gyoen while wearing the kimono.

・There are size limitations for the kimono, so please provide your height and body type information when making a reservation.

・Traditional Japanese sandals will be provided, but if they are difficult to walk in, you may wear your own shoes.

・In case of bad weather, the experience may be modified or canceled.
Please search for “Rakuu-tei Kouichi Store (Kimono Rental & Souvenir Shop)” on Google Maps before your visit. The kimono rental shop is located inside the tea room Rakuu-tei within Shinjuku Gyoen. You will need to walk from the nearest Shinjuku Gyoen gates: About 10 minutes on foot from the Shinjuku-Gate About 15 minutes on foot from the Okido-Gate We recommend arriving at Shinjuku Gyoen at least 30 minutes before your reserved time to ensure a comfortable arrival.

  • Final Return by 4:00 PM: The kimono must be returned by 4:00 PM, allowing you ample time to enjoy your experience. Returns after the final time will incur an additional fee of ¥1,100.
  • Please note that kimono rental is limited to inside Shinjuku Gyoen. Guests are not permitted to leave the garden in kimono.

When should I book?

To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.


Cancellations

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
