Miyajima World Heritage Torii Kayak Tour

Paddle across the calm waters of Miyajima for stunning views of the Great Torii of Itsukushima Shrine. Depending on tides and weather, you may go ashore to explore local shops and temples.
1. Meet-up & Preparation
Guests meet at the designated location near Miyajima's ferry terminal. The guide welcomes you and provides a short orientation. Participants change into kayaking gear and store personal belongings in waterproof dry bags. Beginners receive a basic paddling lesson and safety briefing.

2. Launch & Warm-up Paddle
After gearing up, you’ll launch your kayak from a quiet beach. The guide leads you into the calm waters along Miyajima’s coast. You’ll get comfortable paddling while enjoying views of pine-covered hills, floating torii gates, and passing ferries in the distance.

3. Approach to the Great Torii of Itsukushima Shrine
The highlight of the tour is approaching the iconic “floating” Great Torii gate from the water. Depending on the tide, you may see the base submerged or fully visible—both offering breathtaking views. This is a rare angle that land visitors can’t experience. The guide shares local history and cultural insights along the way.

4. Kayak Along the Shoreline
You’ll continue paddling along Miyajima’s scenic coastline, passing forests, temples, and smaller shrines tucked into the hillsides. The pace is relaxed and suited for beginners. Occasional stops allow for photos and quiet appreciation of the landscape.

5. Optional Shore Landing (Tide & Weather Permitting)
If conditions allow, the group may land on the island to explore. You can stroll down the local shopping street (Omotesando), enjoy traditional Japanese sweets or snacks, or visit nearby cultural landmarks such as Daisho-in Temple or Senjo-kaku. Your guide will adjust the timing based on tide levels and guest preferences.

6. Return Paddle
After the shore excursion (if available), you’ll get back into your kayak and paddle back toward the starting point. The return route may differ slightly, offering new perspectives of the island and shrine.

7. Tour Wrap-up & Dismissal
Upon return, you'll land at the original beach. Guests change out of gear, and the guide wraps up with a short reflection or Q&A session. Photos taken during the tour may be shared, and recommendations for local spots can be given upon request.

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
