These traditional houses are concentrated in different regions. The houses are divided into first wife's cabin, second wife's cabin, barns, etc. and you can see where the livestock were kept and the huge differences between the cabins. The Kenya Bomas Organization was launched in 1971 after Kenya's independence (1964) and is managed by the Kenyan government to promote Kenya's rich cultural heritage. In addition to the main attractions (dancers and traditional farmsteads), there is a large wooden play area for toddlers, a low-key village of craft shops and other attractions.
