Description

Valladolid - city of kings, and the city of Cervantes. Land of castles and good wine, wine, castles, horse-drawn carriage rides, charming villages...
King Philip II, son of Emperor Charles I and Isabella of Portugal, was born in 1527, in the Palace of Pimentel, which was very close to the convent of St. Paul. Preparations for the baptism began immediately and the most important decision was in which church to celebrate the event. If the baby was to be taken out of the palace door, it was the church of San Martin, a very humble church. Then someone came up with the idea of taking him out the window.

For the baptism of Philip II, an elevated passageway was built between the church of San Pablo and the palace so that the royal family could walk through it without stepping on the street. As the passageway was elevated, one of the windows was used as an exit from the palace.
