Begin your adventure with a hotel pickup in Luang Prabang about 10AM. From the city pier, board a boat for a scenic Mekong River cruise to the Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm.

Arrive at the rice farm and enjoy a traditional Lao lunch prepared with fresh, local ingredients. After lunch, set off on a unique journey by farm tractor, slowly climbing along irrigation canals that channel water from the Kuang Si tiered waterfalls. Along the way, take in the landscapes of rice paddies, encounter water buffalo, and observe local farmers at work. Continue on foot with a gentle trek following the canal system toward the top of Kuang Si Waterfalls.

Here, discover how local villagers have collaborated to build and maintain the traditional Muang Fai irrigation system. This is a testament to centuries of indigenous wisdom—an engineered waterway that embodies the communal governance of the land. The muang-fai represents a living social contract: a complex system of rights and shared responsibilities where villagers work together to maintain the weirs and canals, ensuring that the precious resource is distributed equitably under the guidance of a traditional water master.

Reach the top of the falls, where you’ll have around three hours of free time to relax, swim in turquoise pools, explore forest trails, or simply enjoy the cascading natural beauty. Finally, meet your driver at the Kuang Si parking area and return by minivan to Luang Prabang about 6 PM.
