Duration:

Description
Immerse yourself in Malaysian culture with a cooking class in a local home. Visit a market, learn to cook classic dishes, and enjoy the meal you've prepared with your host.
Begin your culinary adventure with a warm welcome from your host, often a passionate home cook or a family, in their cozy home. Immerse yourself in the local culture as you step into an informal, personal setting.
Start your day with a trip to a wet market or a local neighborhood market. Learn how to select fresh ingredients like lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, tropical fish, and specific cuts of meat.
Move to the home kitchen or a dedicated cooking space to learn how to make 3-4 classic dishes, such as Nasi Lemak (coconut rice with all the trimmings), Chicken or Beef Rendang (the iconic rich, dry curry), Char Kway Teow or Mee Goreng (stir-fried noodles), Satay with peanut sauce, Roti Canai or Curry Laksa, and a traditional dessert like Cendol or Kuih.
Learn to balance the core flavors of Malay cuisine: spicy, sour, sweet, and salty. Use the batu giling (granite mortar and pestle) to make rempah (spice paste) from scratch.
Sit down with your host and fellow students to enjoy the feast you've created. Share stories, family recipes, and cultural exchanges. Take home a printed recipe card or digital copy to recreate the dishes.
