Benito Juárez National Park is nestled in the lush forests surrounding the city of Oaxaca, spanning the municipalities of Oaxaca de Juárez, San Andrés Huayapam, and Tlalixtac de Cabrera. It's got 2,591 hectares that protect tropical deciduous forest, oak, and pine ecosystems, home to a wide variety of wild species.
The trails are marked, there are park rangers, and it's a safe and fun way to hike near the city without wasting the whole day.
Depending on the time of year, it can be really lush and full of green plants and beautiful flowers (June-December), or full of autumn colors and super dry from December to May.
The biodiversity of this area helps clean the air, regulate water and climate, and reduce the impact of extreme events. Also, with its streams and springs, it helps provide water to a big part of Oaxaca City and its surrounding towns.
