Description
Explore Kirtipur and Chobar on a guided tour from Kathmandu. Visit the Bagh Bhairab Temple, see the Chilancho Stupa, and enjoy panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayas.
Meet your guide and set off on a journey to Kirtipur, a charming town perched on a ridge southwest of Kathmandu. Explore its narrow, paved streets, traditional red-brick houses with tiled roofs, and significant temples.
Visit the Bagh Bhairab Temple, the most well-known temple in Kirtipur, dedicated to Bhairab in the form of a tiger, who is considered the guardian of the city. The temple is unique for displaying the weapons (swords, shields) used by the town's defenders during historical battles.
Next, see the Chilancho Stupa (Chilancho Bahal), an ancient, significant Buddhist shrine dating back to the medieval period, known for its distinct architecture and surrounded by old Newari houses and monasteries.
Continue to the Uma Maheshwar Temple, situated at the top of the hill. Admire the superb panoramic view of the entire Kathmandu Valley and the northern Himalayan range, including peaks like Ganesh Himal and Langtang.
Wander through Pottery Square and the Old Town to see the local Newari lifestyle, traditional artisan work, and squares where locals dry pottery and perform religious ceremonies.
Finally, head to Manjushree Park and Chobhar Gorge. Learn about the mythical Manjushree, who is said to have cut a hill to drain the ancient lake that once covered the Kathmandu Valley.
