Description
Explore Lower Mustang on a 5-day 4WD tour from Kathmandu/Pokhara. Visit holy temples, historic monasteries, charming villages, and the mystical Kali Gandaki Valley.
Begin your journey from Kathmandu in a private vehicle. Stop at Manakamana Temple, the wish-fulfilling goddess shrine, by riding Nepal’s famous cable car over deep valleys and terraced hills. Continue the scenic drive along the Trishuli and Marshyangdi Rivers with Himalayan views on clear days.
In the evening, arrive in Pokhara, the city of lakes. Enjoy a lakeside stroll around Phewa Lake. Spend the night in Pokhara.
On the second day, enjoy a morning sightseeing tour in Pokhara. Visit Davis Falls and Gupteshwor Cave, Bindabasini Temple, and the World Peace Pagoda or Lakeside views. Then, drive towards Beni, Baglung road. En-route, visit Kusma’s Suspension Bridge, one of the longest and highest suspension bridges in Asia, a thrilling walk above the deep gorge. Continue the drive to Tatopani / Dana, a village near the hot springs. Spend the night at a local lodge.
On the third day, start the adventurous drive through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world. Pass charming Thakali villages like Ghasa. Visit Marpha Village, famous for its whitewashed houses, apple orchards, and delicious apple brandy. Continue to Kagbeni, an ancient Tibetan-style village at the gateway of Upper Mustang. Explore the Kagbeni Monastery and walk through its old alleys. Spend the night in Kagbeni.
On the fourth day, enjoy a morning drive to Muktinath Temple (3,800m), one of the holiest shrines for both Hindus and Buddhists. Take a ritual bath in 108 water spouts. Visit the eternal flame and Buddhist monasteries nearby. On return, drive to Jomsom, the district headquarters of Mustang. Spend the evening free to stroll around the windy town. Spend the night in Jomsom.
On the fifth day, drive back along the Kali Gandaki River Valley, where pilgrims search for sacred black fossils (Shaligrams), believed to be forms of Lord Vishnu. Stop for photo opportunities of the rugged landscapes and traditional villages. In the afternoon, arrive at Tatopani, where you can relax at the natural hot springs—perfect after several days of rough mountain roads. Spend the night in Tatopani.
On the sixth day, after breakfast, drive back to Pokhara. If returning to Kathmandu the same day, continue onward along the scenic Prithvi Highway, or extend your stay in Pokhara to enjoy more leisure time.
