Begin your adventure with a 1-hour drive from Thamel to Nagarkot, a scenic hill station perched on the rim of the Kathmandu Valley. Upon arrival, head to the famous Nagarkot View Tower to take in the spectacular mountain scenery, including views of the Himalayas and Everest on a clear day.
From here, start your ride—an enjoyable 14km descent from the highlands to the ancient city of Bhaktapur. The trails are a mix of quiet backroads and dirt paths, suitable for riders of easy to intermediate skill levels. The riding time is approximately 2 hours, with minimal climbing. For those looking for more technical terrain, single-track options are available along the way.
Once in Bhaktapur, step back in time as you explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site—one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the Kathmandu Valley. Visit key landmarks such as Durbar Square, Nyatapola Temple, Dattatreya Square, and Potter’s Square, where traditional pottery is still crafted by hand using centuries-old techniques.
