Description

Experience the magic of the night sky on a stargazing and meteor shower tour in Auckland. Learn about the stars, planets, and constellations from your guide.
Embark on a stargazing tour in Auckland and witness the breathtaking spectacle of shooting stars. This immersive experience is not just about spotting meteors; it is a profound encounter with the universe, set against the backdrop of some of the most pristine dark skies on Earth.

Begin your journey by traveling to a remote location (Tawharanui Regional Park) far from urban light, ensuring pristine viewing conditions and a deep sense of immersion in nature. Once there, your knowledgeable guide will bring the night sky to life using a high-powered beam to reveal Southern Hemisphere constellations and asterisms, explain why stars twinkle and planets do not, and demonstrate celestial navigation.

Look through an 8-inch Newtonian telescope to see deep-space objects, and listen as your guide shares Māori astronomy and cultural narratives, including stories about Ranginui (Sky Father), Rehua (star of healing), Whiro (lord of darkness), Ikaroa (the great fish of the Milky Way), and Hinenuitepō (goddess of night and transformation).

During the meteor shower, watch as shooting stars streak unpredictably across the sky. Your guide will interpret the science of meteors and their origins, peak viewing timing and radiant points, and Māori perspectives on celestial movement. Each meteor shower has its own character, from slow glowing trails to rapid bursts of light, creating a thrilling real-time connection with the universe.
