Description

Ride the iconic TranzAlpine train, Take time to explore the alpine village and surrounding bush walks
Begin your journey from Christchurch between 7.00am - 7.30am with a transfer to the Christchurch Railway Station to board the iconic TranzAlpine Train for one of the world’s most scenic rail journeys to Arthurs Pass.
Travel across the Canterbury Plains, through braided river valleys, and into the dramatic Southern Alps.
Disembark at the small alpine village of Arthur’s Pass where you will reconnect with your Leisure Tours driver.
Take time to explore the alpine village and surrounding bush walks, relax at a mountain café, and keep watch for the playful kea, the region’s famous alpine parrot.
Departing the National Park by coach, we begin the return journey to Christchurch via Kura Tawhiti–Castle Hill Conservation Area, renowned for striking limestone formations and memorable photo opportunities.

Please note: This tour occasionally operates in reverse itinerary order.

The activity is not wheelchair accessible.
Pickup and drop-off are from central City Hotels, at least 10 minutes before your scheduled departure.
Please note there is a QR code on board the train which you can scan for commentary - please also bring your own earphones.
What to wear – as you are travelling to an Alpine environment, we suggest you wear comfortable flat walking shoes, take a rain jacket if possible and dress warmly with layers that can be easily removed or added as the weather conditions can be changeable during the day.

When should I book?

To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.


Cancellations

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
