Step off the typical tourist trail and spend the day discovering Auckland’s North Shore through the eyes of a local. This relaxed small-group tour blends history, nature, art, and seaside charm — with less time in the car and more time exploring.
We begin at the Chelsea Sugar Factory, an iconic landmark since 1884. You can choose to join a guided sugar factory tour (subject to availability, $28pp) or simply relax with coffee and cake overlooking the harbour. Your guide will share stories of the factory’s past and the historic workers’ cottages nearby.
Next, we’ll wander through bush tracks down to the hidden Little Kendal Bay. This quiet beach is one of the North Shore’s secret gems, offering sweeping views across the Waitematā Harbour.
Back in Birkenhead, we’ll explore an art gallery, home to vibrant works from emerging New Zealand artists, before enjoying a relaxed lunch at a popular neighbourhood cafe.
In the afternoon, we’ll take a gentle guided walk through the Kauri Glen Reserve, where you’ll learn about the majestic kauri tree and other forest giants.
Finally, we’ll wrap up the day at Takapuna Beach. Walk barefoot along the golden sands, explore volcanic rock pools, enjoy an ice cream, or even take a swim if you’d like.
With a maximum of seven guests, this is a personal and flexible experience, offering a unique way to see Auckland’s North Shore beyond the usual tourist highlights.

• This tour includes some walking on tracks and bush paths — a basic level of fitness is required and shoes you can comfortably walk in.
• The tour runs in all weather conditions. Outdoor activities may be adjusted depending on the day, with wet-weather plans in place.
• Food and drinks are at your own expense unless otherwise specified. (you are welcome to bring your own lunch if prefer)
• For those wanting to go on the sugar tour you will need to bring long a sleeve top and trousers ( you can change into these at the factory.

When should I book?
To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.
Cancellations
This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
