Description

Discover Entebbe's natural beauty, local culture, and famous birdlife on a guided walking tour. Enjoy a traditional canoe excursion into the Mabamba Bay Wetland and a coffee experience.
Begin your day with a hotel pickup in Entebbe. Meet your guide and set off on a walking tour through the town. Wander through the lush Botanical Gardens, take in views along the Lake Victoria shoreline, and walk through local streets to see everyday town life.

Midday, stop for lunch at a local restaurant, sampling Ugandan cuisine and refueling before the afternoon's main event. From there, transfer to Nakiwogo landing site on the shores of Lake Victoria, where a safety briefing and life jacket fitting prepare you for the next stage of the journey.

Board a traditional canoe and paddle through narrow channels lined with papyrus reeds into the Mabamba Bay Wetland Ramsar Site, one of Uganda's most celebrated birdwatching destinations and home to the elusive shoebill stork.

Your guide for this stretch is a member of the local fishing community, with years of firsthand experience tracking the shoebill's movements and the wetland's broader birdlife. While the shoebill is the headline attraction, Mabamba hosts over 260 recorded species, and a checklist is provided so you can identify and track sightings such as the African pygmy goose, malachite kingfisher, papyrus gonolek, and blue-headed coucal.

Partway through the wetland experience, pull ashore for a 30-minute coffee stop hosted by a local family, where you'll see traditional bean roasting methods passed down through generations and enjoy a freshly brewed cup while learning about daily life along the wetland's edge.

After the coffee experience, paddle back to Nakiwogo before transferring to your hotel, bringing a full day of nature, birdlife, culture, and community connection to a close.
