Description

Join our evening food tour through Arequipa with 15+ tastings, exploring glowing volcanic streets, lively markets and traditional picanterías where old recipes still define the White City.
As dusk settles over Arequipa, the White City begins to glow. Colonial streets carved from pale volcanic stone catch the last light beneath the shadow of three mighty volcanoes, while the aroma of charcoal fires, bubbling clay pots and slow-roasted meats drifts through the cool Andean air.

Over four hours and 15+ tastings, we'll explore the flavours that have made Arequipa Peru's undisputed culinary capital outside Lima, weaving through the historic centre, the bustling Mercado San Camilo and neighbourhood streets where tradition still takes precedence over trends.

Along the way, you'll step inside the city's legendary picanterías that evolved from humble family homes into the beating heart of Arequipeño cuisine. These lively dining rooms still prepare recipes passed down through generations, serving hearty dishes from enormous clay pots according to traditions that have changed remarkably little over the centuries.

Expect golden papa rellenas fresh from the fryer, smoky anticuchos sizzling over glowing coals, richly spiced adobo Arequipeño, succulent lechón sandwiches and the city's iconic rocoto relleno. Cool off with creamy queso helado, sip smoky chicha de guiñapo and the cult favourite Kola Escocesa, and discover how volcanic landscapes, Indigenous traditions and Spanish influences combined to create one of South America's most distinctive regional cuisines.

This is the Arequipa locals know after dark, where smoky grills, bustling markets and generations-old kitchens continue to keep the city's remarkable food traditions alive.
