Description

Little Alpamayo (5,430 m above sea level) is an ideal mountain for beginners, with a low level of difficulty. A good alternative if Huayna Potosí seems too crowded to you. Beautiful views.
DAY 1
We'll start in La Paz city (3,600 m) at 8:30 a.m. After trying out the gear, we'll begin our journey by car, which will take about 2 hours and 30 minutes (largely depending on traffic when leaving the city). At around 11:00 a.m., we'll arrive at our hiking starting point, La Rinconada (4,650 m). Our day will be somewhat easy, as we'll hike from this point to the base camp located at Lake Chiarqota (4,800 m). Here, we'll find basic shelters where we can rest and spend the night.
In the afternoon, we will hike from the lagoon to the Condoriri Glacier (4,900 m) for a short ice climbing practice session.
DAY 2
We start the day at midnight. We get up, have breakfast, and set off for our destination. We leave the shelter, and the first part of the hike takes us 2 to 3 hours to reach the Tarija Glacier (in this section, you don't need to use the crampons we provide).
From Tarija Glacier, we'll walk with our crampons on for about 2 hours to reach the first summit, Pico Tarija (5,330 m). From here, we'll descend again over terrain that's a mix of ice, snow and rock for about 250 meters. We then begin the final part of our ascent and reach the summit of Little Alpamayo at 5,430 m. We reach the summit at around 8:00–9:00 a.m. We have time to admire the beauty of the mountain range, take souvenir photos, and then descend to our base camp to enjoy a delicious lunch and finally return to La Paz at around 4:00–5:00 p.m.
