Description
Explore Cajamarca beyond the city with panoramic views at Abra del Gavilán, the thermal waters of Yumagual Waterfall, and a hands-on encounter with local pottery traditions.
Explore a different side of Cajamarca on a half-day experience that brings together scenic landscapes, thermal waters, and traditional craftsmanship. This route is designed for travelers who want to discover the natural surroundings of Cajamarca while also connecting with local traditions and communities.
Your experience begins in Cajamarca at approximately 9:00 AM, where you will meet your guide before traveling toward Abra del Gavilán. At this scenic viewpoint, stop to enjoy panoramic views of Cajamarca and the surrounding countryside. Take photographs, admire the changing landscape, and learn from your guide about the area before continuing into the countryside.
Next, travel to Yumagual Waterfall, one of the most distinctive natural stops on this route. Here, you will see warm thermal waters emerging from the ground and meeting the cooler waters of the river, creating a striking natural contrast. Your guide will explain the characteristics of the area and the role of its thermal waters. You will have time to enjoy the scenery, take photographs, and experience this peaceful setting away from the city.
The journey continues to Mollepampa, where the experience becomes more cultural. Meet local artisans and discover traditional pottery-making techniques. See how local crafts are produced and learn directly from the people who preserve these skills from one generation to the next. This visit offers a more personal connection with the traditions of Cajamarca rather than simply observing them from a distance.
After exploring Mollepampa, return to Cajamarca, arriving at approximately 2:00 PM. Throughout the journey, your guide will provide information about the landscapes, local traditions, and communities you encounter.
This half-day experience combines three different aspects of Cajamarca in one route: panoramic Andean scenery, a distinctive thermal-water landscape, and direct contact with traditional local craftsmanship. It is an opportunity to explore beyond the city's main attractions and discover a more local side of the Cajamarca region.
The activity lasts approximately 5 hours, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The schedule may be adjusted slightly depending on local conditions. Comfortable clothing, walking shoes, sun protection, and water are recommended.
