Peru has a great variety of ingredients, thanks to its vast geography where the typical foods of each region and that all come together to create the diverse Peruvian food of today. Lima, the capital city of Peru, is known for its vibrant and diverse culinary scene. The city’s gastronomy is a reflection of the country’s rich cultural heritage. Also Lima’s cuisine has undoubtedly earned it an excellent and well-deserved position as one of the top food capitals in the world. Various ingredients ( potatoes, vegetables, fruits and flavored non-spicy chillies), others cultures influences (china, africa, mediterranium and europe) and culinary tradition from ancient Peru times with its own techniques, they all coalesce in delicious dishes that enchant every tourist.

No discussion of Lima’s gastronomy would be complete without mentioning pisco, Peru’s national drink. Pisco is a type of brandy made from grapes that is distilled in copper pots, and is typically consumed as a cocktail called a pisco sour.

The first spot will be the Miraflores coastal cliffs to enjoy a delightful view of the Pacific Ocean (largest and deepest on earth), it is considered the most prolific, very important for the economy of the country and to get to know how important the ocean was for the earlier civilizations.

The next stop will be at «Samaca», a local-brand store to see and try some of the organic and handmade products. you will have a local herbal tea, crackers with blueberry jam.

Then you will be taken to “La Lucha” Restaurant (a favorite haunt located in the Central Park of Miraflores Formerly Kennedy Park) to try some “Huayro” potatoes and Lucuma smoothie (lucuma is a native fruit and most people who tried it say it taste like butterscotch).

Afterwards a visit to a local market “Surquillo”, it shows the peculiarities of each region of the country, also we will have the chance to taste some of the delicious fruits, markets are frequently visited especially because locals are used to buy almost everything they need for cooking a delightful lunch, in this market we will learn the health properties of some native products like lucuma, gooseberry, maca, kiwicha, etc., also to learn about the history of fishing in Peru.

The last stop will be at “Puro Mar Restaurant”, where we will learn how to make a good ceviche and a glass of Pisco Sour or Chilcano, there will be a chance to make your own dish and drink, the last part will be the lunch that includes the traditional dishes. (if you do not drink alcohol you can have Chicha Morada (purple corn punch) or a lemonde.
